The Secret Life of Carpet Remnants

Wait! Before you throw out those carpet remnants left over from the installation of your new carpet, think about all of the things you can do with them. This is a great eco-friendly way to make sure these small pieces of carpet do not find their way into your local city waste disposal site. You can reuse these materials in a variety of ways which will improve your daily life.

Use remnants as noise inhibitors, slide them under noisy appliances, or as protective padding under furniture on a hardwood floor. Simply cut them to the size of your furniture legs and slide under each leg. Remnants are terrific as protective mats. Slide a piece under a car, to add a level of comfort and warmth while you work on your vehicle, or to catch oil leaks and prevent staining of your garage floor or driveway. Use them also as yoga or exercise mats, you can roll them out and roll them up easily. Remnants are a great help when you need to move heavy objects. Just tip the heavy object onto the remnant and slide across the floor. For a real touch of creativity, try taking various remnants in a variety of patterns and colors, cut them to fit like a puzzle, and lay them in the kid’s room. The kids will have lots of fun putting together this fabulous floor puzzle. If you have a cat, remnants can be stapled to a board for a great place for your feline friend to sharpen his or her claws. For your canine friend, how about lining his or her bed with remnants? In your workshop, staple remnants to the top of a sawhorse to protect your projects from damage. You can also make a great mat to place by your front or back door to stop dirt and debris from being tracked into your home. There is no need to buy an expensive rug for the purpose. Simply get your piece of carpet bound at the carpet store to prevent it fraying. In the garden, you can wrap remnants around your knees or lay them under your knees to provide padding when you are gardening.

In fact, even if you have no remnants left after your carpet is installed it is worth asking the carpet store for old carpet samples as these can be used in the same ways and they come ready bound and in a neat size and shape!

You can use carpet remnants in a large variety of ways. This is a great way to reuse materials around your home. Whether you use your remnants for acoustics, padding, or lining, the possibilities are infinite. All you have to do is use your imagination to come up with hundreds of ways to use and reuse pieces of carpet.
