This is a refreshing way to participate in a game since you know that you will be around until the conclusion. Plus, even if a played gets behind they still have the ability to catch up and are given goals in order to accomplish this in a realistic time frame.

Resources can also be traded among players as long as both parties agree to the transaction. But resources can be temporarily robbed by an individual staking claim to an area. Once the robber moves on the resources can once again be allocated.

A twist of the game is that a resource card can be used to purchase a development card. Why is this important? Because each one gives a distinct advantage to the holder and creates a new development in the game that advances the holder even closer to victory.

Specific parts of the island are prime locations and therefore are places that all players will vie for. Once they are established as a settlement the owner can capitalize on their success by trading with the bank at a two-to-one or even three-to-one ratio.

The object of the game is to build as many settlements as possible with each one counting as one point. A settlement that is upgraded to a city counts for two points. Now that is a luxury lifestlye, isn’t it? Points can also be granted for such activities as building the longest road or developing the largest army. The first player to ten points wins the game.

Not only is it a very successful game but also in its first year it won first place in the prestigious German Game Prize competition. This is an important award for a board game to be awarded and no easy task for any maker to accomplish. The votes are tallied from such groups as professionals, magazines, stores and even game clubs. This wide variety of input means that the game has reached a substantial and diverse number of audiences.

The Settlers of Catan also won German’s title of Game of the Year in its first year. This increased publicity brought attention to the game and catapulted its sales into the stratosphere almost overnight. Now that more people have been introduced to its unique style they are flocking to it by the droves.

While its competitors focus on always improved and more realistic graphics, Nintendo has always focused on gameplay; they may lag behind in other areas, but they make a lot of games that are just plain fun. As a result, of the top 20 best-selling video games of all time, 18 are for Nintendo platforms.

The company’s main spokeperson, of course, is Mario; Super Mario games make up the most popular gaming franchise of all time, and Mario himself has appeared in over 200 different video games across a variety of consoles and handhelds. Indeed, the flagship game for each new console is generally a Mario game; in my list of the best Nintendo games on the Wii, for example, Mario games hold two of the five spots. So what are some of the best games?

New Super Mario Brothers tops the list, of course. This game exemplifies everything Nintendo is great at; they effectively took Super Mario 3, one of their best games ever, and updated it with modern technology. Although this is a Wii game, it doesn’t really use the motion sensors on the Wiimote (although a move or two do require shaking it) and doesn’t miss them; this is platforming at its finest. Up to four people (playing as Mario, Luigi, and two toads) set off to rescue the princess after Bowser kidnaps (princessnaps?) her from a birthday party. Of course, there’s plenty of getting in each other’s way, and it’s not uncommon to accidentally shove your buddy into a pit!

The Trauma Center series, which I’m treating as one game due to the similarities, is another great. You take on the role of doctor, using the nunchuck to select your instrument and the wiimote to wield it, and race against time to save the patient. This is an exciting, tense game that drags in even those like me without a great deal of interest in medicine.

Everyone has Wii Sports, or at least should; it (or the updated version, Wii Sports Resort) comes packaged with every Wii. The game may have been meant mostly to show off the capabilities of the system, but it’s a fun time in its own right, and players can easily end up with sore arms from batting a tennis ball around. This game has also been the cause of the demise of several TVs, as overly enthusiastic players released their wiimotes during a swing, with unfortunate results.

The Wii also plays GameCube disks, which is nice as many of the best games are available in “Player’s Choice” versions for under $20. As I never had a GameCube, I was happy to try out some of the top games on the Wii, and found a new favorite: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door. This is an RGP-style game with a great storyline; overall, it took me nearly 50 hours to finish, which works out to maybe 40 cents per hour if I never played it again. Well worth it!

Microsoft’s Kinect appears to be the a bit more innovative of the two products with the use of a camera to track the movements instead of using a wand.  Reports have indicated that this technology seems to work well.  The one complaint comes from a lag in the system when it is overloaded.  Additionally, the Kinect games seem to benefit the casual gamer rather than the die-hard fans.  In other words, Microsoft has released what seems to be their own version of a Wii Sports game and a pseudo version of Dance Dance Revolution.  The new technology is not being used to create older game programming such as Gears of War or Halo. Some video gamers are worried that the application of motion technology towards family oriented games will possibly cause a lag in technology being used to develop the more adult and college aged mature games.  Is it possible that the Xbox fans might eventually end up having Gears of War replaced by various versions of Kinectimals?  Time will eventually tell.

From a different perspective, it is hard to refer to Sony’s MOVE without making a comparison to the Nun chuck and Wii remote technology.  The big concern in all of this new programming and technology on the market is the fear of losing some of the original and great games that came out in the first generation technology.  The good news though, is that MOVE does what it is supposed to do, and it will give people a chance to create a more natural interaction with the game they are playing.  It looks like Sony is committed to keeping its games like Resident Evil 5 and additionally features favorites such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.  It is equally obvious that there will be additional effort put into expanding the family video games. As long as technology continues to advance, watch for other companies and corporations to step up and attempt to capture their share of the video gaming market.

Both of these game consoles have a dedicated fan base, but that does not seem to be the target of the new additions and games. The XBox Kinect games seem solidly aimed at the Wii market of casual gamers and although the Sony Move games seem at first glance to be a bit more sophisticated, there is no doubt they too aim to steal market share from Nintendo.

Music has been proven over the centuries to be a valuable asset to humanity. As an individual, you may be wondering how playing an instrument could do anything for your career. At the very least, employers value people with hobbies, because it shows dedication, pride, and motivation to achieve without the stimulus of money. The simplest way to gather resources is to build fields outside of your cities. Resources will be produced faster as you build additional fields and upgrade the ones already done.  If you need a short term, non-recurring boost to your resources, you should look to conquer barbarian camps spread throughout the wilderness.  This is a great way to find a short term caches of resources.  It is not a recurring source of food unless you are able to log in to play every day.

Another way to improve resource production is to conquer wildernesses. Every wilderness under your control will add a percentage increase to your hourly resource output. The more defenses a wilderness has, the bigger the benefit to your production.

Always own as many wildernesses as possible. You can defend wildernesses by hiring mercenaries and building traps to stop or slow invading forces.

Never overlook the tremendous benefit that Knights provide to your resource production. Assign a Knight as your Steward as quickly as possible, even if it difficult to afford one in the beginning stages of the game. Knights provide more powerful benefits as they age. Don’t forget that you will build additional cities quickly and will want to have well seasoned Knights ready to be reassigned to the new cities.

Make sure you have a good resource utilization plan as you craft them. While they are needed for buildings, cities, and defenses, the biggest use of resources is the maintenance of a large army.

Work quickly to build a series of powerful cities in Kingdoms of Camelot before more assertive players take advantage of your weaknesses.  The best way to do that is to develop a plan and work hard to improve your resource production rates.

The Gibson SG classic is a reissue of the Special that was popular in the 1960s. Gibson has always used high-grade mahogany in many of their guitar instruments and have matched their pickups perfectly to compliment this choice of wood. The SG is a mahogany solid-body that is fairly thin. Mahogany normally has a warm and growly tone in a thicker style guitar, such as the Les Paul, but the thin cross-section of the SG brings out a much crunchier scream that a lot of lead guitarists love. Rosewood is the wood of choice for the fingerboard and has a white binding that is not always standard on an SG. The headstock is the standard Gibson style with white tuners and the inlays are mother-of-pearl dot style. They are simple but they do the job well.
