In the many cycles of boom and bust, the boom that started around the year 2000 was a doozy! So it makes perfect sense that the bust which followed was also a doozy! It appears as if housing prices in the United States peaked some time in the 2006-2007 timeframe, and by 2008 they were in a freefall. The crash was so severe that it brought down the financial markets of countries around the world. It was a truly epic crash!

I am writing this in early 2011 and things seem to have bottomed out, but the patient is in a coma. Foreclosure sales are still at a record pace, although new foreclosure filings seem to have leveled off. Prices haven’t moved much, and new home building hasn’t been this low in decades.

I think this makes it a good time for people to re-evaluate the entire concept of home ownership. But if you have your heart set on a home, perhaps you should reconsider tying up all of your net worth with a box in the suburbs, surrounded by millions of other boxes. Maybe this would be a good time for you to look into micro cabins!

Now the wife and I just got out of our albatross of a house and are getting ready to hit the road for some traveling. But if and when we decide to finally settle down I really do love the whole concept of owning a small cabin out in the woods somewhere! Micro cabins are small (as you may be able to tell by the word ‘micro’ in the name) but are designed so efficiently that you might never notice. Claustrophobia is offset with spacious lofts and windows and roomy porches. But all this comes with a price — a CHEAP price! I just saw a set of plans to build a 16×20 cabin for $4000! Good grief, my last home builder charged me twice that much just to add room for an extra car in the garage.

If you want to find out more about these wonderful little homes here are a few places you can do some more research:

* Tumbleweed Tiny House Company – This company can do it all for you. They have a book, they have workshops, and they have lots and lots of tiny house plans.

* Tiny House Designs – This is a leading source for all things tiny – they may not use the term ‘micro cabins’ specifically, but they have everything under the sun when it comes to living in small, inexpensive spaces. I especially like their Solar SaltBox Plans!

* Penny Pincher Barns – These folks sell all-inclusive kits for every kind of small living structure you can imagine. They call their cabins ‘mini’ but I think we’re in the ballpark…

And here are the two extremes in this particular category:

* House In Montana - These people are pushing the limit of the word Micro with these behemoth cabins. 1024 Square Feet! Hardly anything micro about that! They also come with one acre of land and cost $189,000.

* Nine Tiny Feet – Yes, you read that right – nine square feet! Several different design ideas here, including one on wheels and an actual by-god MICRO cabin!

One of the hardest things to deal with when it comes to plumbing are sweating copper pipes. This is because most Americans are in the dark on how to deal with copper pipes — and in the absence of a clear understanding of how copper pipes work, most people opt to just hire a professional plumber for these specific concerns. However, there are several plumbing tips that can actually make you equipped with the necessary know-how when it comes to these particular problems. These are some of the helpful plumbing tips that you can learn from:

For general information, sweating actually happens when copper pipes are joined with solder. Doing this is actually simple if you get it right in your first attempt; however, if you make a mistake, it might be harder for you to fix it later on. In order to do it right, you need to thoroughly clean the pipes, and you have to use the right kind of torch, solder, and flux. You also have to be extra sure not to have water in the pipes, because this can prevent the pipes from heating up enough so you can melt the solder.

The first of these plumbing tips is cutting the pipes. When you cut these copper pipes, it is much more preferable to use a pipe reamer rather than a hacksaw. This is because a reamer often leaves a beveled edge surface without the usual metal shards and burrs that can prevent the pipes from fitting together perfectly. A reamer can also better guarantee a watertight seal. Then you ream the pipes by tightening the tool over the pipe, and then rotate it by 360 degrees later on. Remember that you need to tighten it some more, and you need to continue rotating as well. If the blade will cut deeply enough in the copper’s surface, then the pipe will easily separate.

When it comes to cleaning these sweating copper pipes, it is essential to use a wire brush to remove the layer of copper that is oxidized, as well as to de-burr the cut pipes’ ends. Meticulous cleaning is your best assurance that your sweat copper pipes would not eventually leak. Moreover, several pipe cutter products have wire brush add-ons that’s specifically for this purpose. After you have polished and de-burred the pipe, you then need to spread acid-free flux on both the fitting and the pipe as preparation for soldering. Moreover, besides preventing oxidation and priming the copper, flux cleans the pipe well, too.

Of course, these plumbing tips would not be complete if it does not disuss the soldering part of the process. You first need to attach the fitting to the pipe — and using a torch, you need to heat the joint. You have to make sure though that you do not go overboard, because overheating can often oxidize copper and create a leaky joint. You need to heat the pipe joint until the solder starts to bubble up and then spit. When your solder starts to melt, take away the torch’s flame, and then move the solder’s tip around the joint. By doing this, your melted solder will then be drawn into the joint because of capillary action.

It’s that easy.

To most people, Christmas evokes memories of family and tradition. No other holiday instantly connects with the thoughts of days of yore and Christmases past except, perhaps, Thanksgiving. The times, they may be a-changin’, but Christmas will always be memory-laden. The Christmas tree, itself, is a paean to the past as each decoration is one memory or connection to a memory. And, when many people decorate with those memories, they often prefer to use traditional vintage Christmas lights.

True, prior to electric lights, people actually used real burning candles to brighten up the greenery. That method was used for many years and it looked great. While certainly providing better and more sentimental lighting, it was soon considered to be too dangerous and probably contributed to the advent of Fire Departments and firetrucks. In the end, it was deemed far better to utilize electric lights, thus being able to greet the new year with the home still intact.

Subsequent Christmas lights were made with the earlier candles in mind. They were larger and brighter, and they were shaped like candles. They definitely evoked the memory of real candles and their glow, surrounded by fake “snow”, seemed to bring out the best in Christmas greetings cards and as seen through a window. Their prominence in traditional Christmases is iconic and endearing. The candles in themselves have become another great traditional symbol of the festive season.

However; it must be said that even those lights had their flaws. The heat generated from those vintage Christmas lights also caused fires when placed too close to the wrong kind of decoration or tinsel. And, the electricity required was more than contemporary Christmas lights require. What’s more, often, when decorating the tree, a light bulb would break off. Replacing them could be tricky if the metal “stem” was still in the socket. If you didn’t unplug the cord, you were in for a shock. And, even if you did the dutiful unplugging, you then had to wrangle the “stem” out by gentle means, indeed, or fingers got cut and the potential for blood-poisoning came into the picture. They were beautiful, yes, but still dangerous and expensive. That being said, there are still traditional style Christmas lights available. They are now made safer, but still have that vintage Christmas lights look to them. And, they still summon old-fashioned Christmas greetings when displayed with old-fashioned decorations.

The newer, more contemporary light bulbs are usually much smaller, more easily replaced, and use much less electricity, besides being less likely to invoke firetrucks. They have acquired a certain charm in their tininess; resembling stars instead of candles. Some people will mix the two styles for yet an entirely different look. Yet, again, some people choose to not have any lights at all! So, put that in your stocking and hang it!

No matter how you trim your holiday, Christmas trees will always be a treasured fixture for Christmas, be they made of pine, fir, or tinfoil. Just be cautious about the electrical concerns. Yule be glad you did!

When should we paint the house? Many people looking for home decorating ideas usually find that changing the colors of the walls is paramount. Some people paint the exterior walls just to modify the overall look and feel of the property. Some people find that it needs a lick of paint after x amount of years, and others paint it every year (similar to spring-cleaning) because they are just a bit more meticulous. But, when do we really need to paint the exterior of our homes?

If a dilapidated property is taken over, painting is a matter of great urgency. Normally it is usually possible to choose the time of year for repainting a house. Obviously, it is sensible to select a period when, as far as possible, the work will be most effective. With modern quick drying paints the situation is not as critical as it was a few years ago, but there are still certain times of the year that are better than others. As a general rule it is not a good idea to embark on exterior painting in winter. If paint is applied in frosty weather or during misty or foggy conditions when there is a film of moisture on the surface, the dried paint peels off fairly quickly. In any case, the drying of a paint film is seriously retarded by both the absence of daylight and by low temperatures. A shower of rain on the still soft painted surface will badly pit it, so that its appearance is ruined. The drying of paint is affected when the temperature drops below five Celsius, and under such conditions its ability to dry hard may be permanently impaired.

During the spring and early summer the temperature will be high enough to promote fairly rapid evaporation. This is a very important factor where moisture might have penetrated deeply into the fabric of a building, since it takes a long time for woodwork to dry out. If, for instance, the property has been neglected and redecoration delayed so that the paint film has perished, the woodwork, especially on exposed places like window sills, may have a absorbed a considerable quantity of water. Now, during spring there might be a long spell of warm, sunny weather. This is dangerous. Under these conditions the surface evaporation proceeds more rapidly than the water deep down in the wood can reach the surface. Therefore, the surface appears to be dry although h there is, in fact, still a considerable amount of water in the wood. This will almost certainly result in the paintwork blistering badly and it could cause the woodwork to rot. Similarly, textured walls rendered in stucco or concrete also appear deceptively dry, but the coat of masonry or emulsion paint applied on top might well flake off.

Once the time has arrived for repainting, there is no point putting it off. Delay, as all painters and decorators know, far from being an economy, leads to greater expense. With winter ruled out and spring uncertain, the best time for outdoor painting is clearly late summer or early autumn!

Painting an entire house requires some time and quite a bit of effort. It is a task that must be done properly and one that requires planning and patience. Painting services can terminate the problems that come along with doing this project on one’s own. These professional painting services understand the procedure of painting a house and have the expertise to do the task efficiently.

One of the most important things that house painting services can guarantee is the professional results. All proper preparations on the walls, woodwork, and ceilings will be completed. This even consists of the repair any drywall that may be necessary. They will fill holes, cover stains and remove chipped paints. These repairs promise that the completed creation will be smooth and even ensuring the look to be fantastic.

Another great perk from painting services is the efficiency and speed that the companies provide. The workers have experience and tend to have a short time frame in which they complete the project. Because the crew has completed this task time and time again, the process of moving the furniture, if it’s necessary, the preparation required to avoid damage, as well as the painting and clean up, will all be completed quickly.

Expertise is also very important when considering a massive project such as painting a house. Painting services have professionals who potentially have many years of experience in dealing with different applications, surface types, and brands of paint. They are aware of different painting techniques and the large array of paints available. These specialists know exactly what is needed to gain the best results and this knowledge is what helps in eliminating wasted time, as well as money.

This leads to another positive that house painting services offer which is saving money. Someone who isn’t familiar with painting an entire house may be unsure as to what supplies are necessary and how much of what is needed. Painting services have their own supplies and the cost of having a painting job completed in that manner usually just includes the paint and the time put into the job.

The crew is also covered by their insurance. The companies that they work for are licensed and bonded. Those companies have rules and regulations as to how business must be conducted. In layman’s terms, this means that if a mistake or an accident occurs, the homeowner is not held liable or responsible for what they had no control of. This may prove to be unnecessary, but in cases where injuries or accidents occur it can help to save the homeowner quite a bit of money.

Painting services can assure that the new paint job will look professional and great in a short amount of time. The homeowners will be at ease knowing that there are experts working to complete this large task, rather than conducting the physical labor themselves. It makes this daunting project something manageable which is always a plus.

Are you about to start your search for a vanity chair? You may have already visited stores that carry this furniture item. Target, Kmart or Walmart all have them. However, if you really want the best variety and quality at the most comfortable price, the internet may be your best shopping venue. All these big stores and every other one have an internet shopping site. Many offer more items on their online store, since there are no floor space issues on the web. They can also offer discounts and shipping deals at their website, since so much of the selling work is automated.

You of course want your new vanity unit chair to coordinate nicely with the other furnishings. You will use it and see it daily; it should always be part of a pleasurable appearance for your room. If it clashes with the style or colors of your other furnishings it will stick out unattractively, however cute individually. Color is an important consideration–if an exact match is not possible, shades of the same color may be an even more interesting way to coordinate.

Traditional designs that are reminiscent of the antique furniture with richly finished and decoratively carved natural woods, set in brass or silver toned metals bring back the elegant lifestyles of previous centuries. There is no necessity for searching all the antique shops in town to find the right chair, where it commands a small fortune. A Victorian Bentwood Chic Shabby Desk vanity chair’s simple wooden high back comes with a cute striped cushion. A genuine antique, it clearly was a cherished item from a Victorian or Edwardian era home. It would be an exciting way to accessorize your home. It would go perfect with any room that had brown wooden accessories or antique looking white desks or tables, or counters with brown in a decorative pattern. This chair can be seen at eCrater.com. Another great online venue for excellent bargains in vanity chairs is eBay. They are also antique, some that are cushioned, or some that are smaller, daintier chairs. Most of these chairs even with shipping are priced under $100. When comparing prices online always consider the cost of shipping. Many retailers, even on eBay, charge enough for shipping to make the price no longer much of a bargain, especially when shipping a hard-to-pack heavy item like an antique wooden chair that must be packed with great care.

Those whose homes are furnished in simple, functional and striking lines of contemporary and modernistic furniture will also find plenty of appropriate vanity chairs within their price range. Walmart carries perfect ones for little girl’s room for less than $100. Even the color names are fun: Tutti Frutti Watermelon or Duck French Pink. Your older daughter at or approaching her teenage years will want to help pick out any furnishings for her room, so she can be proud when her friends come. She might enjoy the vanity chair for teens called Duck Lilac Teen, which is about $20 more than the little-girl sized chair. Walmart sites usually charge for shipping. Even their free shipping to the store nearest you requires you to visit the store to receive delivery of an order, so you might prefer to start at Walmart in person to check if they have the chair you like in stock where you can pick it up then and there.

There are all kinds of shaggy rug around and these rugs have been popular for many years but the new kid on the block is the so-called shaggy raggy rug. A shaggy raggy rug is one of the simplest rugs out there; it is made by sewing a number of thin strips of cotton jersey like t-shirt fabric on to a cotton canvas cloth that is used as the backing. Because of this they are very easy to maintain and can be machine washed and dried. They are also very soft on the feet and are very absorbent as the whole of the rug is just one big pile of cotton cloth.

In households that have very small children this rug is very useful because your child can play on it, it keeps them off the floor, and will also absorb any small accidents that happen. These rugs are very convenient because they can be washed and reused repeatedly. This is especially true if you have a nice carpet installed, or you have a really beautiful wooden floor.

The great thing about these rugs is that because they are so easy to clean, they allow you to choose colors that you otherwise would not dare to put down on the floor. So if you want a white or pale pink shag rug in your bedroom, there is nothing to stop you having just the color you want, rather than having to choose something darker, in order to be more practical.

In the bathroom a small shaggy raggy rug is good both because you can stand on it keeping your feet off the wet floor, and because it will absorb a lot of the water dripping off you. Having one where you step out of your bath or shower where you towel yourself dry is a good idea for this reason.

In the living room or den use a larger rug to have more impact on your floor and in the room. Even if you eat a lot of snacks there you don’t have to worry about any spillage and protecting your flooring or carpet. As long as the rug will fit in your washing machine, it is easily washed can just be dumped into the machine and dried before reuse. Even if you have a very nice carpet and a rug is great for protecting the areas of the carpet which might suffer most from wear or spillage.

Although there are a few places that offer tips on how to make these rugs, don’t start unless you have a lot of time to spare. Making one is not all that difficult, but is very time consuming, and is not for the faint hearted. Shaggy raggy rugs are fairly cheap to buy anyway but if you are thinking of getting one of the larger and therefore the more expensive ones, it might be worth shopping around on the Internet and comparing prices; you can get good discounts in some of stores on the web and generally a better selection of these rugs than in your local store.

One of the most common materials used in built-ins for homes and businesses today is wood. It is one of the oldest and most widely utilized building materials. Wood is strong, durable and a great design element to add value and magnificence to your living space. A wood storage cabinet will add that extra touch of warmth you have been wanting for your room, while providing the practical storage you need. Whether you choose to install a custom, semi-custom or stock storage cabinet in your room, there are plenty of sizes and styles from which to choose.

The most common types of wood used in building storage cabinets are pine, oak, cherry, birch, maple and mahogany. Pine is the least costly wood obtainable. It is pliable but will tend to scratch and dent easily. Oak, on the other hand, holds its stunning reddish-yellow color, and is both attractive and pliant. Similarly, Maple is also a very well-liked wood due to its durability and resilience. Cherry is recognized for its beautiful color, and is one of the most popular woods on the market. The fact that it darkens into a rich red hue with age makes it highly desired, while, birch is also popular because of the multiplicity of shades and colors in it. However, birch is a softer wood, making it more vulnerable to scratches and dents. If you want an incredibly beautiful wood, mahogany is very expensive but, if you can afford it, it is well worth the money you spend. Both rare and fine-looking, it is a perfect wood for carpentry and build-ins for your home.

Cabinets can be purchased in two forms, face frame and faceless. Face frame cabinets use a solid frame installed along with a front face, allowing for texture and space between door and drawer overlays. This is a more conventional American cabinet style, while, faceless cabinets are more common to European households. They are built in individual, solid boxes without a face frame for attaching hinges. This makes the doors and drawers sit close together without gaps, giving it a clean well-tailored appearance. You will want to choose the style which fits your personal taste and household design best.

Wood storage cabinets are a great way to add style to your home, while adding the practicality of storage to your living space. There are so many woods and styles from which to choose, from tall multimedia storage shelved cabinets to antique storage trunks. You can either install cabinets as a do-it-yourself project, or hire a contractor for installation. The best place to start is at your local home improvement store, where you will find experts who can give you advice and guidance on the best way to proceed. Even better, many home improvement stores have contractors on site, who can advise you and, also, should you choose to do so, provide the carpentry services which you need. Shop around, look for the best deals on your chosen wood, and then you will be on your way to adding the storage you know you need.

All of the home lighting gurus say that LED lighting is here to stay but what makes them so sure? You can’t have escaped it your self – virtually every home and hardware store has shelves of LED lighting – they have completely saturated the market. Whether you want to replace your regular light bulbs at home with an LED equivalent or want an outdoor waterproof light you are sure to be able to find an LED light that can perform this function. This article takes a look at why you should buy LED lights.

The more traditional incandescent bulb has several components, some of which are extremely fragile. Manufacturing and assembling this older style of light bulb is therefore very difficult and gives rise to a certain amount of failures. LED bulbs (although they are not technically bulbs) are incredibly cheap to produce as they are solid state – i.e. have no mechanical or moving parts. This lower cost of production is passed on to the consumer.

The low power nature of LED lights is another reason why you may want to consider purchasing LED lights. There low power needs have resulted in them saturating the outdoor market because they are ideally suited to being powered by solar energy. This isn’t the only reason though why you may want to use them outdoor. Incandescent light bulbs get extremely hot and are not particularly well suited to be used at ground level. In contrast, LED light run much cooler and are a better option if they are going to be used where pets and children play.

LED lights will last for years – they typically LED will last for over 10,000 hours. It is far more likely in fact that the housing the light is in will fail long before the LED bulb its self will. Because LED’s have no moving parts they are very difficult to break and therefore breakage will not be a reason for them failing.

With a life time of 10,000 hours the LED light bulb will last considerably longer than it inferior incandescent predecessor. Although the initial cost is greater than a regular light bulb you are sure to find that this cost is easily recouped in terms of how often you have to replace the bulb and the cost of powering the bulb. If you want to reduce your household bills then you need to start looking at LED lights.

The creative possibilities of LED lights are almost endless. Their compact size means that they can be used in situations where previously it was impossible either due to safety constraints or size constraints. Underwater lighting and areas where space is limited – such as in cabinets – can now be lit safely and look beautiful.

These are just a few of many reasons why you should buy LED lights for your home. There low running temperatures, lifetime and power efficiency make them great and safe to use in home lighting projects so you really can get creative.

Whether you want to buy some designer outdoor lighting or just simple patio string lights for your bedroom you are sure to find an LED light that is suitable.

If you’re external doors require replacement you have a tough job in front of you. The reason for this is that the choice available of not only styles but also materials is enormous.

Materials used in the manufacture of doors can be narrowed down to 4 types and these are:

Wood

PVC

Composite

Steel

Composite doors are relatively new in the last few years. They consist of an external skin on each side which is in one piece and made from glass fibre. The door face is moulded to give the appearance of a real wood panelled door. The fibre glass is colored the full thickness of the door skin therefore it will not fade over time.

The surface finish gives a wood grain effect which is quite believable. The core of these doors is usually filled with a rigid foam material adding not only strength but also providing a thermal efficient door. These doors can be quite expensive but they are a quality product.

Steel doors are similar to composite doors except the external face is made from a press steel sheet. The door face can be pressed in a panel style again similar to that of a real door. The steel face can also be pressed to give a wood grain effect. These doors are generally for painting however at the higher end of the market, steel core doors are available with a real wood veneer exterior surface, but very expensive.

Traditional wooden doors have been the favourite choice for decades, even hundreds of years. Mahogany exterior doors in the past has been the most popular, but nowadays other species, such as oak, are coming to the fore for selection. These doors in the past were made from solid wood sections. Doors made this way are prone to warping and twisting due to changes in the environment, this is due to moisture content. If moisture content increases the wood will swell and when it dries out the wood will contract. This constant movement means that the door will sometimes stick in the frame or it will be very loose fitting and generally an unstable product.

Modern day door manufacture techniques have alleviated a lot of these unstable issues. Doors are now made using a process referred to as engineered involving wood lamination techniques in the formation of the door.

The result is a product that is more stable and can withstand a hammering from the environment. They will however still require maintenance from time to time to keep them in full working order.

PVC front doors are generally maintenance free. Many a wooden door has been pulled out to make way for a new PVC type. Being a manmade product it does not warp, twist and absorb moisture. These doors are offered in a wide range of styles. White is the standard color but other colors are available together with wood grain effect in a number of different species for example mahogany and oak.

Whatever type of door you choose will depend on your needs. If you want the traditional look and feel from a door and don’t mind providing a bit of maintenance then a wooden door is the best solution. If you want a complete maintenance free life PVC and the composite type doors are a great solution.

Can I add a fireplace to my home? This is a question that many people who don’t have fireplaces have wondered. Of course, the answer is yes. But, at what expense? Hiring a contractor and tearing out a wall and building a fire pit and vented chimney that is up to code may be expensive. Plus, in some areas you can only build gas burning fireplaces so the traditional wood burning fireplace may be out of the question even if you can afford to build it.

Fortunately there are some really great portable choices these days. The first and foremost is the electric fireplace. It looks just like a regular fireplace and you can choose a mantle to match your home and your decorating style. The cool thing about it is that you don’t need a venting system. All that is required to set up and run an electric fireplace is a space near a wall and an electrical outlet.

If you would prefer a built in option there are some cool modern inserts and built ins using the electric or fuel gel fireplace. You can always convert an existing wood burning fireplace to one of these options. You can also get kits where you can install theme in the wall. The wall units are usually a modern design such as stainless steel or clear glass. If you get one of these modern options you can also get an insert that has colored LED lights and a remote to customize the fire show to fit your mood. You can also get fuel gel cans that burn different colors. If you opt for the double sided glass option you can have fire in two rooms at once.

A nice thing about the electric and the fuel gel fireplaces that are available today are the different types of surrounds. If you want that classic look you can get an ornate white surround. If you just want a smooth walnut or cherry finish you can get that too. If you want to go more rustic you can get stone or thick logs. If you are into sleeker furniture you opt for stainless steel, black, or clear glass. It really is up to you.

I once saw a large LED fireplace that was really sleek and modern. It was stainless steel and built into the wall. It had a remote where you could change the color of the LED flames and control the intensity. It also had clear blue simulated river rock which made it look like it was blue crystal out of a fairy tale. There are crazy expensive custom options and also many affordable options that you can have up and running for two or three hundred dollars. You are only limited by your imagination and the time you put in finding the right equipment.

The most important thing is to find something that suits your tastes and budget. Once you are staring at the glowing fire embers you may not even notice the surround so don’t break the bank. Find an affordable option that suits your needs and enjoy spending time around it.

There are many positives to having an outdoor shower enclosure, especially when you live near the pool or the beach. During the summer months you may find yourself using these two facilities quite a lot, and having a convenient place to wash up, and clean up may be the type of outdoor decor that you and your family need. When you have children and pets that play around in the dirt and like to get too dirty having this equipment outside will help keep this mess out there rather than inside.

When people chose to have an outdoor shower they have one for their own reasons, such as for decorative purposes or practical. The shower comes in handy especially when you live near the beach, as you can rinse off all the unwanted salt water, or if you have gone for a run down the beach.

There are many different types of outdoor bath shower designs, their are ones that can be on their own, or can be attached to the wall. If it is a stand alone shower you can move it around, and can be attached by a hose or by a tubing purchase that you can buy from a store. If you just use the hose, you will only get cold water. If you decide on a shower that is built in, you need to consider where it will go, as you wont be able to move it around. This type of shower does needs a water source, and they are generally put together on a wall of the house for that reason.

You should also consider whether your privacy is needed when having this type of equipment outside. If you only plan to use it for rinsing off when you come off the beach, you don’t need it to be enclosed, however if it is meant to function as a proper shower then an enclosure one should be built, for the extra privacy. When building this equipment it is probably better to go with stainless steel, especially if you are near a beach and you can easily clean it with water and soap, just make sure you dry it well though.

You can have any features with this type of equipment, and it can be designed whatever way you see fit. Whatever you decide to do, make sure that it is all water resistance as it needs to be able to withstand any type of weather conditions.

Having an outdoor shower, can be really ideal in warmer months, especially for those who live near the beach. Getting cleaned up can help prevent the home from having any form of dirt or salty water getting into the house. As, it allows you to wash or rinse your wet suits or any other form of beach wear outside, and it helps keep all the beach sand outside rather than in.

The SMEG fridge is a modern day refrigerator but with an iconic twist, it is designed to look like it came straight out of a 1950’s Sears catalogue. It’s rounded edges, stainless steel pull handle, and glossy finish are only the beginning of a brilliantly thought out design. With its retro 1950’s style, this refrigerator guarantees to add a bit of style and flair to any kitchen, in addition to performing its role of a high tech appliance. Make no mistake, the SMEG fridge is retro in appearance only. Hidden behind its classical exterior are all the high tech bells and whistles possessed by its less stylish competitors.
Along with an antibacterial interior, the SMEG fridge possesses a host of other features that vary depending on the model. Standard for all models is the class A or higher energy rating, which means in terms of running cost, you get a big bang for your buck. Along with the highest energy rating you can ask for, the fridges also come equipped with an interior light on all but the smallest of models. Perhaps one of the best features of this fridge is its wide variety of available colors, all of which are designed to maintain that classic 1950’s style. Every unit has the following selection of base colors to chose from:

Beautiful shower tiles in a bathroom make it look stylish and decorative. However, these tiles often get dirty because of the calcium in the water, mildew, soap scum and rust. All of these factors act together to bring a dirty and dingy look to your beautiful decorative bathroom. Cleaning tiles and bringing back the shine of your bathroom is no doubt a hard task. However, there are some great solutions to this problem. Check out the following easy ways to clean shower tiles in your bathroom.

Shower tiles can be of different types such as ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, stone tiles and so on. The cleaning process also varies depending on the type of the tiles. If you have ceramic tiles in your bathroom shower, vinegar may do the trick. Take equal amount of warm water, vinegar and baking soda in a spray bottle. Mix them together by shaking the bottle well. Now spray this solution all over the tiles in your bathroom. Don’t miss any corners. Leave it on the tiles for a few minutes. Then take an old used toothbrush and scrub the wall tiles. Scrubbing is essential for removing those nasty stains. After scrubbing for a few minutes, wipe the tiles with a wet piece of cloth.

Vinegar also works wonders in cleaning porcelain tiles. However, while preparing the vinegar solution for cleaning your porcelain tiles, cut out the baking soda. On the other hand, if you have stone tiles in your bathroom, you may use any liquid soap to clean them. Add a few drops of a mild liquid soap in a bottle of water. Shake the bottle and spray the water on the stone tiles. Wait for a few minutes and then brush the tiles. Give a little more pressure on the tile grout. Then wash off the walls with clean water and wipe with a dry tissue or a piece of cloth.

Wait! Before you throw out those carpet remnants left over from the installation of your new carpet, think about all of the things you can do with them. This is a great eco-friendly way to make sure these small pieces of carpet do not find their way into your local city waste disposal site. You can reuse these materials in a variety of ways which will improve your daily life.

Use remnants as noise inhibitors, slide them under noisy appliances, or as protective padding under furniture on a hardwood floor. Simply cut them to the size of your furniture legs and slide under each leg. Remnants are terrific as protective mats. Slide a piece under a car, to add a level of comfort and warmth while you work on your vehicle, or to catch oil leaks and prevent staining of your garage floor or driveway. Use them also as yoga or exercise mats, you can roll them out and roll them up easily. Remnants are a great help when you need to move heavy objects. Just tip the heavy object onto the remnant and slide across the floor. For a real touch of creativity, try taking various remnants in a variety of patterns and colors, cut them to fit like a puzzle, and lay them in the kid’s room. The kids will have lots of fun putting together this fabulous floor puzzle. If you have a cat, remnants can be stapled to a board for a great place for your feline friend to sharpen his or her claws. For your canine friend, how about lining his or her bed with remnants? In your workshop, staple remnants to the top of a sawhorse to protect your projects from damage. You can also make a great mat to place by your front or back door to stop dirt and debris from being tracked into your home. There is no need to buy an expensive rug for the purpose. Simply get your piece of carpet bound at the carpet store to prevent it fraying. In the garden, you can wrap remnants around your knees or lay them under your knees to provide padding when you are gardening.

In fact, even if you have no remnants left after your carpet is installed it is worth asking the carpet store for old carpet samples as these can be used in the same ways and they come ready bound and in a neat size and shape!

You can use carpet remnants in a large variety of ways. This is a great way to reuse materials around your home. Whether you use your remnants for acoustics, padding, or lining, the possibilities are infinite. All you have to do is use your imagination to come up with hundreds of ways to use and reuse pieces of carpet.

Aluminum carports are used primarily for the protection of automobiles against adverse weather elements. Carports are gaining increased popularity amongst homeowners because of their affordability and convenience compared to their steel or wooden equivalents. Carport typically come in standalone and lean-to or attached models. You can also choose between hard metal tops and soft-top fabric canopies.

The structural aluminum alloy used in the construction of carports is lightweight, corrosion resistant and durable. Corrosion resistance means the structure is durable and relatively maintenance free, thus saving you the cost of repairs in the long run. The aluminum finish is aesthetically pleasant requiring no additional costly surface coatings. The nice finish on most carports helps the structure fit in well with the existing facade of most homes.

Aluminum carport installation is usually a DIY job, saving you the extra cost of a specialized or professional installation. Installation is achievable with minimal manpower and using handy tools readily available in an average household toolbox. This means you should have no problem installing a carport yourself or with the help of a good friend. The other advantage is that the carport can also be dismantled and transferred to another area or location quite easily.

If you are looking for aluminum carports for sale, the internet is the best place to begin. Alternatively you can check the local hardware or home improvement stores to cut on transportation or shipping costs. Aluminum carport kits are generally light and portable and therefore convenient to transport as well. It is important to ensure that the structure of your choice is designed to meet the local weather conditions and any local municipality by-laws and building regulations before purchasing.

Aluminum carport prices vary depending on size and type of shelter you prefer. The soft-top canopy models are less expensive than hardtop models. However both are cheaper compared to a full aluminum garage and definitely much cheaper than the cost of constructing a real garage. Although the carport is usually clutter-free and tidy, it is always advisable that you plan by choosing a structure that can be added to or enclosed if the need arises. Most aluminum shelters can easily be converted with the addition of wall panels, doors, and even windows if necessary. A fully enclosed carport will give you more security for your car and lots more storage space.

If you are considering installing an outdoor structure to protect your valuable assets, aluminum carports offer the best and most cost effective option. Other than a beautiful shelter, storage and work space, a carport can also increase the value of your home without any considerable on-going expenses.

One of the most elegant, stylish additions that you can make to any home, assuming a large enough space, is a vintage iron chandelier. The great thing about a vintage iron chandelier is that chandeliers never seem to go out of style. People use them to literally transform their homes into an elegant Mediterranean villa or European castle. They are strong, very resistant to corrosion and will last forever if cared for.

You can find a vintage iron chandelier in many different sizes to accommodate many different locations in your home from your living or family room to a narrow hallway or even enclosed porch. Iron is one of the most flexible and malleable metals around, making it very easy to shape and mold into many different shapes and styles. Before you purchase however you should know where you plan to place the chandelier and take measurements. There should be at least several inches between the edge of the chandelier and the nearest walls. The lights from the chandelier can fade or even char paint, if too close, and, in some cases even start a fire. You should also check the available supports where you plan to hang your chandelier. Even the lightest chandelier is pretty heavy and you should only use main supports to anchor it. A strut made of a 2 x 4 probably will not give you the best spot and can be dangerous.

Iron chandeliers are very easy to clean also. A simple solution of mild detergent and baking soda will take care of most of the problems you might have. The cleaning rag should be only damp and you should wipe the chandelier dry when you are done cleaning, especially if you live in a humid climate. If you have problem areas you can add either a very light coating of oil, which will also add a luster to the metal, or a light coating of wax, which will seal the metal very well.

Many elderly and disabled people who suffer from mobility problems have mastered the use of disability accommodations to enter a building or cross a street. In contrast, they may find lifting themselves in and out of a place to be a troublesome task, so cannot handle a challenging task like bathing. The worst part is that they have to suffer in the comfort of their own homes.

Handicap bath tubs are specially designed to accommodate these needs and put power back into these people’s hands. For new owners, bathing in these tubs becomes an easier, more pleasant experience that does not involve any extra effort. Most importantly, they can bathe safely with no stressful worries. Even for the non-disabled, dangers like a watery, soapy floor can cause slips or falls.

As disabilities vary, so do the bath designs. The most common disability for those who use the tubs is problems with walking and standing, so the walk-in door is an essential feature.

Entering a walk-in bath tub requires a few steps with the assistance of handlebars. Controls like the shower faucet and tub filler are within arm’s reach and simple to pick up and maneuver for those who are restricted in the use of their hands or arms. Those who have trouble managing the water temperature will benefit from a thermostatic valve that works against scalding.

The integral seat of the tubs provides less hassle for lowering and lifting the body. The seat also provides less strain to those with back problems.

A handicap shower or bath tub is a necessity and not a luxury since regular tubs pose numerous hazards for people with limited movement. Today, owning these tubs has become more realistic, although the prices can still be steep for most homeowners. The average cost adds up to thousands of dollars, which rivals that of owning a whirlpool tub. Regardless of the cost, the wide selection of safety designs and accessories that a handicapped bath tub boasts makes it a worthy investment to consider for those who need it the most.

Though many options exist for constructing a pool deck, the best available option is to use concrete pavers. The reasons for using concrete paving stones this way are many. Their strength, durability, beauty, and financial viability all push pavers over their competitors, like brick pavers and concrete. Since the pool deck is a high traffic area, and often covered with water, any material used for its construction should satisfy a number of criteria. Pool pavers satisfy them all.

First, they should be slip resistant. Pool pavers, even when wet, are still rough and thus have a lot of friction. This prevents someone running on them from slipping. They are not rough enough, though, to ruin the aesthetics of the pool area: they look as smooth and vibrant as ever, even years later.

Next, they paving stones are durable, even against the hot sun and chlorinated water. They resist cracking as they are not subject to the damages of freezing and thawing cycles. Pavers will also not fade in color over time, even with constant exposure to the elements. Homeowners are advised to pick a cool color so the surface of the deck will not be hot even on the hottest summer days.

Concrete pavers come in a large variety of colors, shapes and sizes. The homeowner can thus design the pool area to his or her liking, taking into account the color theme and style of the backyard area. With poured concrete and other options, design choices are limited by the aspects of the material being used. Pavers allow for more freedom of expression than their competitors do.

Finally, pavers are easier to install near a pool than concrete or other choices. If installed carefully, no brick or stone will fall into the pool, ripping the liner or otherwise clogging the filter. Since paver pool decks don’t crack or deteriorate quickly, they are also a better financial investment than options like concrete, which often start cracking after as little as one year.

Warming yourself up even in your own backyard can be a challenge. In the end, it seems that the cold always wins. However, you can take matters into your own hands and battle the cold using a fire pit. Unlike most outdoor heaters which look out of place among decorative items, fire pits seem to blend in. This is due to the beauty in design that these pits exhibit. Their exteriors are designed using lavish materials and colored paints. The metal frame which these pits sit on can be left open or covered in materials like slate. The fire bowl where the flames emerge is made from either copper or steel which has been molded into a bowl shape.

Fire pits create heat by burning either gas or solid fuel. Wood is quite common as a fuel source because it burns well and is readily available. Stacks of pre split wood can be obtained from a local store for cheap. Several logs are needed for a burning session, and more are needed to keep the flames going for long periods of time. Users should take care to clean the pit between uses to remove soot left behind.

Gas burning fire pits use propane or natural gas instead of wood. These efficient systems are easy to use and come in just as many decorative forms as their counterparts. All you need is a propane tank which can be bought at a gas station or home store. After the initial purchase, the tank can be refilled indefinitely. Propane is sent through a burner and then lit to create the flames. The height and intensity of the flames can be altered by changing the gas flow. Every propane fire pit has a maximum heat intensity as rated in BTUs. The higher this number is, the greater range in heat.

Are you the type of person that loves collecting antiques or placing classical pieces as decor in your home? Then, tiffany style lamps might just tickle your fancy. Tiffany style lamps were first produced in the year 1895 and are basically considered as part of the Art Nouveau movement. The very first model of these lamps was made by Louis Comfort Tiffany who is the founder of the Warehouse of Tiffany’s Company. Tiffany style lamps are best known for their unique designs, colors, and patterns which are often placed on their glass lamp shades.

Tiffany style lamps fall into seven different categories namely Flowered Cone, Transition to Flowers, Irregular Upper, Lower Border, Favrile, Geometric, and Globe.

Favrile lamps were the very first models of tiffany style lamps. Transition to Flowers lamps basically features different lovely patterns on their lamp shades such as flowers, dragonflies, spiders with webs, peacock feathers, and butterflies. This category is further divided into Flowered Cone and Globe lamps.

Next, Irregular Upper and Lower Border lamps are made with openwork crown edges, which make them resemble trees, shrubberies, and branches. Lastly, Geometric lamps are made with shape patterns on their lamp shades such as squares, ovals, and rectangles. Among the most popular manufacturers of tiffany style lamps include Warehouse of Tiffany’s, Quoizel, and 1908 Studios.

Tiffany Torchiere Lamps – these kinds of tiffany style lamps are thin and tall floor lamps that are designed with inverted lamp shades that enable them to direct their light upwards towards the ceiling of a room.

Tiffany Style Desk Lamps – these types of lamps are often used for reading. Tiffany style desk lamps are typically used for lighting in small areas such as tables and workspaces. These lamps are usually designed to be 25 inches above a desk’s surface so as to provide an optimum type of light.

As we all know just like every other market out there the market for grow lights is filled with all types, shapes and sizes of grow lights, and just like every other market out there it is filled with a bunch of hype and only a little bit of truth. Well today we are going to try and fix a little bit of that by adding some truth to the madness.
One of the things that most people do not know about fluorescent grow lights is that they are some of the easiest to handle on the market. The reason that this is, is because there is so little setup as the ballast and reflector are already attached to the grow light housing. After hanging the light all that you have to do is plug the light in. with other types of grow lights such as high intensity discharge or HID grow lights, the reflector and ballast have to be assembled onto or around the grow light hung and them all connected before you even setup the light. This can be a very confusing process for the new indoor gardener.
The next reason that you should make your next grow light purchase a fluorescent light is that they draw about half of the power that HID grow lights and incandescent grow lights do. This is due to the fact that they are fluorescent bulbs that use gas to light up the bulb, instead of heated up heavy metals that require a lot of power to be heated to point of ignition. These grow lights are also very low on the heat output scale as the only real heat is that coming off of the bulb not the bulb and ballast like others.
Another reason that fluorescent lights make great grow lights is that they are great for the whole plants growth stage, from seedlings to flowering and all in between. If you would like to know more about types of grow lights such as LED grow lights, HID grow lights and more go to top LED grow lights.

When you are selling a home, you may think that anything will add to it. This is not always the case; however, good roll up awnings can make any home stand out and seem more fun than the rest of them.

What Can You Gain

There are several things that you can gain from these kinds of awnings. The first is that you can give a home a little more character; this is great if you live in an area that has homes that look pretty much alike. Think about how much your home will stand out if it has something that the others in the area don’t have yet.

Another thing that these awnings give a home is an appeal for entertaining. This is because any home will have an area that is shaded and made for families to get together and have fun. You may also include an outdoor grill to give any buyers a feel for what the space could be used for if they choose to buy it from you.

Colors

Awnings come in a wide range of colors. You will have to pay attention to what colors are going to go well with it so you can find a color that complements it. Matching colors will also help any home to sell because they won’t make a home look too odd. Potential buyers will love the addition to that home and a color that goes well with the outside of that home. Keep this in mind when buying your awning.

Awnings also add that personal touch that people really enjoy. If you want to really make an impression with customers, then this is a great way to go. The right color and design can really make a huge difference in the amount of money you get for a home and the amount of attention it will get while it’s on the market.

Take a little time and find the right awning for your home so you can get the most out of your sales and you can get the attention to that home that you deserve. If you are not sure about the style and colors for your awning, you can bring a photo of that home with you and ask a professional that works in the store you are purchasing from. They will be able to help you find a design that will look great and help you sell it.

Plumbing jobs can be some of the most expensive repair jobs in your home. Learning how to do simple plumbing yourself is a good way to save extra cash. Although it takes some research to learn how to do a good job, it can save you a considerable amount of money in the future. While you may need to call plumbers for bigger jobs in the future, you do not necessarily need to go running for the phone every time you discover a leak. For example, changing a sink is not a difficult job. You can easily master a few tricks to the trade that will enable you to perform most small plumbing tasks around the house. In this article we want to show you how to change a kitchen faucet yourself in a few simple steps.

First you will need to shut off the water. You do this by turning the shut off valves underneath your kitchen sink. Open up the old faucet before you remove it to get rid of any extra water. Use an Allen wrench to disconnect the supply lines to the hot and cold water valves.

Next you are going to take the old faucet out of the sink to replace it with the new one. There should be two lug nuts at the bottom of the faucet underneath the sink. Using a wrench or basin wrench, disconnect the nuts that hold it in place. Once that is done you should be able to lift the old faucet right out of its resting place. When you life it up, you will notice that it is still connected to the sprayer hose. Use an adjustable wrench and unscrew the hose. If you have bought a similar faucet, then all you need to do now is follow the above steps in reverse starting with the sprayer hose.
